Destashing my fabric *cough* collection

We have been busy here at Konstant Kaos sorting out some fabric to destash. Most of them are cut into Fat Quarters, but if you are interested in yardage, then please email me!

Most of these prints have been used in my business in one form or another. At the moment, I just don't have the time to do large scale sewing required to keep up with the market pace.

So it is time to destash. Keep an eye on my Etsy Shop, as I am adding things every day!

Keep Sewing!

Packages

I love my Express Post guy, he knows that if I am not home then I am not far. Andreas and I zipped out for a yummy dinner at Denn in Westgarth and when I came home two packages were sitting there at the door.

The first one, my indulgent Kona Rolls. Prompt delivery and beautifully packaged by the Fat Quarter Shop. These will be used for my daughters quilt .. makes it easier to match up printed fabrics that I have rather than doing multiple runs to the fabric shop.

The second, an Amazon purchase of I love Patchwork and My Neighbor Totoro picturebook or my daughter as a present when she gets her "big girl bed" in a few weeks.

I have decided that the first project from the the I love patchwork book will be the sewing machine cover, except it will be for my mixer in the kitchen (same idea, different application).

There are lots of lovely "clean" looking japanese inspired designs in the book and I will probably eventually make my way through all of them! If you love things like this, check out Rashida's blog where all the magic happens!

Buy Australian Made ...

Celebrate Australia Day on the 26th January by supporting one of our local textile designers.

Here is a list I have been compiling for a while now, if I have forgotten anyone, let me know!!Flipping through their web sites and shops there are some lovely fresh designs in there. I tried to search for some indigenous designers, but did not have any luck :(

I often have difficulty buying these fabrics from my local stores so I often resort to just buying online. But keep an eye out at the various stitches/craft/quilt fairs that occur in Melbourne, as they are often sold there.

Prints Charming

Doing a bit of a search to see how many Australian hand screen printed textile designers are out there, and I came across Prints Charming.

Ohh! some very nice bold prints (I love bold) that I would love to quilt with! They also have some lovely quilting kits which include material, batting and instructions.

Check out their blog and check out their web site and shop! nice stuff!

Flower Press Screen Printing

I love to support local designers, one that I stumbled across was Flowerpress.

She does a lovely Ric Rac inspired design that would just look fabulous in your next quilt. She has an etsy store with some lovely prints in it as well! I am waiting until she re-stocks in the new year before I place my order ...

Her blog is pretty interesting as well .. check her out!

The evils of the internet

Young Jennie pointed me in the direction of Big Horn Quilts and the fact they had a sale on ... so I bought some fabric to add to the tonnes of fabric that I already have.

Some nice "boy" fabric in there, spiders and I love the silhouettes but not sure what I am going to do with them yet.

Since starting Konstant Kaos I know that the minimum I should buy is 1 metre and the maximum is 4 metres. Anything over 4 metres hangs around too long and I get bored with it!

Halloween Fabrics

Halloween is right around the corner, so in a moment of weakness I ordered some fabric from Spiceberry Cottage via etsy, some Moda Spooktacular fabric. Quick delivery, good condition and I am in love with the purple Moda bat fabric.

Not quite sure what I should make, but I am enjoying looking at them and daydreaming of what I could do if I had a few hours to myself in my sewing room.

Material Goodness

You know you are a frequent buyer when you wander into your favourite patchwork store and the owner wanders up and shows you a pile of fabrics that she has put aside for you in their sale *giggles* Made my day! I had spent the previous hours on the couch sleeping. Sore throat, but really exhausted.

I came away with a modest purchase of fabrics; Alexander Henry Snuggle Skull, some really cute Kokka fabric that will become cute mini lunch totes, some standard skull fabric and some purple skeleton fabric. All good! I was hoping to make a quick stop at GJ's on my way to the Yarn Barn to get more Merino for my current crochet project ... instead I went and looked at VnV Boutique on Lygon Street. From the outside it looks like your average goth shop, but their range is probably more alternative and from next week they will have gallery space opening up for alternative artists. Interesting.

So, just incase you didn't pick up this interesting fact from my post ... GJ's in East Brunswick have a 25% off sale for the next week until next Wednesday. Enjoy!

Material Obsession

A few friends had noticed that I hadn't blogged in a few days. What can I say ... last week of school term = exhausted! Although I only teach the equivalent of 2 classes, it is still an effort to get in there and do what I do best!

And then there was my birthday on Saturday. What an excuse to go off to GJ's on Lygon Street and add to my stash with this little collection. I bought the material, and my Mum bought me these gorgeous embroidery scissors. The material is not for a specific project, but rather I loved the colours and wanted to get some of that design before it was all gone. I am contemplating tryinhg my hand at Pink Penguins Fabric Basket.
