Five Favs

I thought I would join in on Pip's post on her five favourite things this week ...

1. My cats
Introducing a new cat into the mix is always dangerous .. Vladamir is settling in well, every once in a while you hear a growl and a hiss as Natasha and Vlad pass each other in the hallway. He is adjusting quite well to being an "inside only" cat.

2. Geek crafts
As I type away at my manuscript I am tempted by lots of crafty and geeky ideas. Dreams of assembly language cross stitch fill my head. Sad huh?

3. Heat packs
Sitting at the computer for far too long this week, my heat pack is my favourite thing. Sitting at my lower back as I type or they come to bed with me when it is cold. I think I need a new one and I might just buy one from Me and Mlee at their next market, their heat packs are lovely!

4. Nice cups of tea
Essential to any writing process, I came across Joie de Tea and her black vanilla mix at the last Modish Market. Yummo!

5. The Good Wife
I have really been enjoying "The Good Wife", especially as the characters developed and there is heaps of UST (unresolved sexual tension) introduced into the episodes.

Craft Hatch

Off into the city this morning to take a look at Craft Hatch on at the City Library in Flinders Street. Jennie Barnes from Cravings Frocks will have her wonderful W Class Tram cushions for sale ... you must visit her!

Will be taking my enviro KeepCup for a spin to see how people respond to filling the plastic cup. I have to be home by 12.30, but hopefully time to visit a few shops and maybe even stick my head into Mattt Bags and Meet me at Mikes on the way home.

Granny a Day

Slowly crocheting along for A Granny a Day. Using the pattern in the Meet me at Mikes book, my goal is to make a nice bright multicoloured blanket for my daughter to snuggle up under while watching TV. The nice bright colours should be good for her as she is learning colours at the moment. Each crochet square is framed by a row of black.

I have been using the 8 ply "Sports Support" range of wool/acrylic from spotlight and I get up to three squares frome each ball of yarn and then I do the black row for framing purposes. I went for the blend for Tori as I wasn't sure if she would get all itchy with pure wool. Plus the acrylic means that when I wash the blanket, it will keep it's shape.

Although not sewn together, these squares area ready to go!

Crafty Buggers

I only got around to reading the Sunday Age the other night and noticed this article in it spouting how "Craft has got it's groove back". Was it ever out of fashion?

The article was quite good talking about how it is very much a lifestyle choice and it also made an interesting comment on some of the not so crafty, craft out there.

A very lovely picture of Pip on the front looking very glam from Meet me at Mikes on Brunswick Street and a picture of Gemma the gal who organised the Bushfire Raffle that my Skull and Cherry Blossom swaddle was donated to, from Kaotic Kraft Kuties.

The empowering thing for me is that you can contribute to social change by the very act of donating something that you have made or supplies for others to make things with. That is pretty powerful stuff. Make quilts not war! *chuckles*
