Housekeeping Pouch

Just like many housholds we have a housekeeping budget each week. For the last few weeks my hubby has been using a Japanese pouch with velvet on the back of it. Lovely pouch but not very manly when he goes shopping!

So as part of my sewing warmup yesterday before I got stuck into another block for my Monochromatic Sampler, I made a replacement wallet. A bit more manly with many more functions.

Do other people have little "sewing warmup tasks" or is it just me?

My hubby chose the fabric from my stash .. and then proceeded to sing the tacky 80s song "space invaders".

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know that I love all things geeky and crafty and would love to attempt a space invaders quilt one day.

I seemed to have an excess of red 5 inch zips, so I used one of those and made the inside red as well. The latch on the size is to attach keys or attach to the shopping trolley.

I added a PVC pouch to the back of the pouch for the shopping list so that it doens't get lost. Hubby also decided that it would be a good place for receipts as well.

A few tid bits about the mini-project;

• Size of the fabric rectangle I used was 6 inches by 4 inches with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
  
• I always use interfacing to line the front of the pouch, gives it a bit of rigidity.
• Back of the pouch is cotton drill.
• Latch is attached with heading tape.
• PVC pouch on the back is attached by cutting tissue paper the same size, sewing the perimeter and then removing tissue paper carefully (sometimes with tweesers). I have found this to be the most carefree way of sewing PVC. I have used teflon feet, talc and all sorts of techniques. At the end of the day, I love my tissue paper!

I might make a few of these for my online shop when it becomes operational again!

Konstant Kaos now at Devil Kitty

I haven't posted in ages and that is mostly because I have started back teaching part-time. Although I am only working the equivalent of a few days a week, it still feels like full time when you take into consideration the fact that getting to work involves dropping a toddler off at either childcare or her grandparents! Exhausting! Now that things have settled a bit, I can get back to concentrating on Konstant Kaos during my non-teaching days.

Some good news, Konstant Kaos creations are now on sale at Devil Kitty in Brunswick Street, Victoria, Australia. This shop has so much cool Rockabilly stuff - you have to visit!

Pencil Cases, Pouches, Coin Purses and Shoes are all on display! What a buzz!


I am hoping to get a bit more shop frontage to compliment my markets and etsy shop online.

First Aid Pouch

My daughter seems to find pleasure in emptying out my handbag, so I thought I might make a little pouch to put all my first aid things in it (such as Panadol, Band-aids etc). My husband has a little one that came with his car in red and it is the same size as my coin purses that I make, but I wanted to do something different and bigger!

So with M*A*S*H in mind, I used my doggy treats bag pattern and embroidered a red cross on some camouflage material. The back is cotton drill, base is black PVC and the inside is red homespun.
I have some bonjella for baby in there and also some antiseptic wipes and hand wash. Hopefully I won't have to access it much!

Japanese Coin Purse and Pouch

Earlier on in the year I went off to the Australian Quilt Market and I got 4 metres of this gorgeous fabric. It has been sitting on my sewing desk and I thought I would at least start using it and I made these!

I just uploaded these to my etsy shop. The material is 100% Japanese cotton and the lining is cream homespun. I love the origami pouch, I might make myself one!
